SMS 26-27 Open House and Back to School Information

Dear SMS Jaguar Families, 

We hope you are enjoying summer break! Soon the 2026-2027 school year will be upon us, and we are excited to have our Jaguars return to campus on Monday, August 3! We are looking forward to having students and families back on campus for Open House on Thursday, July 30! Below are the details that will also be outlined in the back-to-school letter that will be shared via ParentSquare after the Independence Day holiday. Additionally, we will have informational tables, spirit shirt sales, and the SMS PTO available at Open House. We hope to see you there!

6th Graders: 

The 6th graders will pick up their class schedule in the SMS gym lobby from 4:00-4:30 PM and then attend a brief welcome by the administrators, 6th grade teachers, and counselors in the gym from 4:30-5:00 PM. 6th graders will then go with their first period teachers to classrooms for ice-breaker activities from 5:00-5:30 PM. During this time, parents are invited to visit the informational tables, PTO, or purchase spirit shirts in the office. Please meet your 6th grade child in their first hour classroom at 5:30 PM.

7th and 8th Graders:

The 7th and 8th graders will pick up their class schedule in the Sahuarita Intermediate School (SIS) Gym from 5:00-5:30 PM. From 5:30-6:30 PM, students and their parents are invited to visit their classrooms to meet the teachers and pick up a copy of their syllabi and supply list.

SUSD K-8 Dress Code:

SMS follows the district's K-8 dress code guidelines. Please see the attached one-page handout as a dress code reference. Spirit shirts will also be for sale in the front office beginning on Open House night, July 30.

Supply Lists:

SMS does not have grade-level supply lists--pencils, paper, and a backpack are all that is needed for the first week. Teachers will share their class supply lists at Open House on July 30 and on the first day of school. Families will have ample time to get supplies, and we invite you contact the front office if you need assistance with supplies or school uniform clothing or contact the SUSD Family Resource Centers at Sopori Elementary School or Sahuarita Primary School.

Student Schedules:

Student schedules will be available when PowerSchool is scheduled to reopen to students and parents on July 29. Schedules will also be handed out at Open House on July 30 and on the first day of school, August 3. If you cannot log in to PowerSchool, please use the password reset link, as the school no longer has the ability to see student and parent PowerSchool passwords to assist with forgotten password requests.
