SMS 2026 End of Year 8th Grade Friendly Reminders

Posted Date: 04/28/26 (10:37 AM)

Dear SMS Families of 8th Grade Students:

The final days of middle school are upon us and we want to share a few friendly reminders:

1. All outstanding student library fees and other fees need to be paid by Friday, May 15, 2026. Please check your PowerSchool account to see your balance. Fees can be paid online in PowerSchool or in the front office by cash, check, or card Monday through Friday from 7:30AM-3:30PM. Students with unpaid fees will not be able to attend promotion activities.

2. Students with one or more Fs as their final class grade as of Friday, May 15, 2026, will not be able to attend the promotion activities. Please check PowerSchool to stay informed of your child's grades and encourage your child to attend the Excel2 before and after school program for tutoring and homework help.

3. The promotion dance sponsored by Student Council is western themed and will take place on the SMS campus on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM. It is open to SMS 8th grade students only and is free. Please see the attached flyer below. Two food trucks will be on site selling Mexican food and slushies for purchase. Feel free to wear your boots and cowboy hats, but it is not required. Any clothing that follows the district K-8 dress code is permitted. If a dress or top is strapless, a sweater or shawl is required. All shoes must be kept on throughout the dance for student safety.

4. The 8th grade staff versus student water balloon dodgeball game is on Monday, May 18, 2026. Students are not allowed to bring water guns, blasters, super soakers, etc. or anything extra. Water balloons will be provided by the school. At the beginning of 8th period, students will drop off their bags in class, the teacher will take attendance, and then students will walk out to the soccer field with their class. When the whistle is blown, the water fun will begin until the last balloon is popped. At that time, we ask everyone to help pick up any balloon pieces! The Santa Rita Fire Department will also be on site with a water truck to cool everyone off.  If girls want to wear their swimsuit under their clothes or boys want to wear their swim trunks with a t-shirt, they may do so. Also, students are recommended to bring a towel and clothes to change into before boarding the buses.

If you have any questions, please contact the front office at 520-625-3502, ext. 1400.
Thank you and congratulations to the promoting class of 2026!
